World Taekwondo Federation Tae kwon do is a full contact sport where you are allowed to kick to the head (throwing punches to the head are not allowed), it is not very dangerous to practice Tae kwon do. Whilst sport fighting, full body protection is used to protect the competitors. To minimise the chances of head injuries, a fighter would not be allowed to fight in a competition for three months if he or she was knockedunconciousst by a kick to the head. If if this where to happen again after three months, you’re not allowed to compete for six months. Another knockoutto the head after this half year period results in a complete exclusion of competitions.
ITF Tae kwon do is only semi-contact. Practitioners not allowed to attack the head with full force. However, it is allowed to throw punches to the head, using the so-called “killing-blow”, stopping just an inch before the target. To avoid injuries, International Taekwondo Federation use gloves at sparring-competition.

Taekwondo is known for its powerful flying and spinning kicks. The budding martial artist should learn the basics of taekwondo through practising choreographed sequences of combative moves , the breaking of boards or other materials, and two person controlled sparring. They will also receive instruction in principles such as courtesy, integrity, perseverance, and self-control.
