Gorilla Safaris trying to prevent the destruction of Gorillas and Gorilla Habitats.
I have always been really drawn to the gorgeous Gorilla, they are amazing animals which have many similar features to humans. Gorillas are big, gentle, shy apes that have their homes in the beautiful land that is Africa. Gorillas have been made to look like nasty animals by the film industry prior to now but are in fact quiet, shy, peaceful vegetarians. These beautifully intelligent creatures are in danger of extinction due to the huge amount of deforestation of their home grounds.
Gorillas that for whatever reason have been placed in captivity have displayed a huge amount of wisdom learning sign language from people and have been able to form simple sentences and communicate with individuals. Only Gorillas in captivity that have been taught have shown any ability with implements this doesn’t mean to say they haven’t used them in their own habitat just that they haven’t been observed.
As I mentioned before Gorillas are mostly gentle animals but they commune with each person using many complex noises and gestures this is mostly to teach the little gorillas the many skills needed to live and to talk to other gorillas about social relationships, food, warning etc. Gorillas are mostly herbivores, though occasionally they will consume termites and ants. The drink they receive from the plants they consume is sufficient to infrequently need a drink of water, which isn’t that surprising if you think that a ordinary male gorilla consumes around 50 pounds of food each day.
The work to make sure that the gorillas habitats is not completely destroyed has been undertaken by many people over the years and now due to the many Gorilla safaris that now draw money into the areas, specifically to see the gorgeous gorilla, the requirement for safety for these magnificent animals is much more central. A lot of these companies provide opportunities to go mountain gorilla tracking in the several parks in the area, but this is on a permit basis to make sure the gorillas aren’t bothered too much. The habitat has let these companies to also provide wildlife safaris which makes sure that awareness and financial support keeps coming into the areas.
At earlier stages of their development Gorillas would have lived in the trees but they have evolved into surviving on the ground mainly living at the forests boundary and near clearings within the rainforests. The life span of a wild gorilla is about 35 years, but gorillas that are put into caged have been known to live till around 50.
By around ten or twelve years of age gorillas are capable of mating, the pregnancy lasts around 8 to 9.5 months for the female gorilla and she will have around 3 babies in their existence. The newly born baby is on average half the weight of a human child. Watching a Gorilla mother raising her young is very much like that of a human mother with great gentleness and love. Young gorillas once weaned create there own beds near to there mothers and will at some point leave there side at around 3 to 4 years of age.
